Bachata Dance classes - Every Sunday at the Grosvenor Hotel

Sunday August 1 2010

The dance taking the world by storm...

Bachata is a sensual & romantic partner dance from the Dominican Republic, now popular in Latin clubs around the world. It emerged from a long standing Pan-Latin American tradition of guitar music. Inhabitants of the shantytowns of the Dominican Republic call it their own, though it is derived from the Bolero which is native to Cuba.

Your instructor: Gysvier Aldana Noriega
Born in South America, Gysvier has been exposed to the latin music since he was born. His parents, both profesional musicians, showed him the beauty within the melody in all its forms but dancing was his materialization. He was always the popular guy dancing in the parties to the Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Tambor. But it wasnt until 2003 when Gys traveled to Indonesia and went out to a Cuban bar where he first saw a Casino Rueda, after this, he automatically falled in love with this cuban genre. Back to his country, he accomplished all levels of salsa casino and in 2006 was invited to join the famous Venezuelan dance academy "Caribe y Punto" as a profesional dancer, a position that he kept for four years participating in national congresses, competitions and performing dozens of coreographies including a presentation in the oppening of the Miss Venezuela 2006.

In the first half of the class you will learn the rhythm, technique and basic footwork. The second half of the class is dedictaed to moves and turn patters.

Cha cha cha Dance classes - Every Sunday at the Grosvenor Hotel

Sunday August 1 2010

Do you always sit out the Cha cha cha in a club because all you've ever learnt is Salsa and Bachata? Here's your chance to learn one of the most popular Street latin dance styles...

Cha cha cha
With its origin from Cuba, Cha Cha Cha evolved from the Mambo. It is a very popular Street latin dance style because it can be either danced to authentic Cuban music, or Latin Pop or Latin Rock. The music for the international ballroom cha-cha-cha is energetic and with a steady beat. The Cuban cha-cha-ch is more sensual and may involve complex polyrhythms. Characterised by 2 slow steps followed by 3 fast chasses. It became a sensation in the 1950s to dance on the off beat instead of the common down beats.

Wednesday August 4 2010

The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil since its inception in the late 19th century. Samba is a solo dance that is most often danced impromptu when samba music is played. The basic movement involves a straight body and a bending of one knee at a time. The feet move very slightly - only a few inches at a time.

Samba is a great workout, especially around the torso, buttocks and legs. High energy music makes Samba an exciting and fun dance whilst learning sexy moves.

Cuban Casino Rueda - every Thursday in South Wharf

Thursday August 5 2010

Melbourne Salsa and Candela Dance have joined forces to bring you the world wide Latin dance sensation... Cuban Casino Rueda!

Every Thursday at Sotano (Hilton South Wharf)

Rueda, pronounced (ROO-EH-DAH) this dance form originated in the streets of Cuba, where couples formed a circle and created various moves and patterns involving partner changes. Each move was given a name (in Spanish of course!) and one of the dancers (the caller) would call out the name of the move and the dancers would then dance the move. The word "Rueda" is Spanish for "wheel". In Cuba the dance is known as "Casino" or "Casino Rueda". In most of the world however it is simply known as Rueda. Rueda is normally danced to Cuban style salsa music, which is more dynamic and funky than traditional salsa.

Instructors Florencia & Manuel - Candela Dance
Florencia, co-director of Candela Latin Dance has studied Cuban Salsa and other Cuban dances with professional dancers/choreographers in Australia, Cuba and Argentina.

Manuel, also a co-director of Candela Latin Dance brings excitement and passion to his Classes. Manuel has studied with some of the most esteemed dancers, artists and choreographers in Cuba (Raices Profundas, Yoruba Andabo), Brazil, Argentina and Australia.
